I have a love-hate relationship with winter. On the one hand, I love it because I love being cozy. If there is an opportunity for boots, cozy sweaters, scarves, and a reason to use the fireplace… I’m all in. On the other hand, I loathe it, because I live in New England where the winters can be long, hard, and unpredictable.
And, now that I am a mom, winter and kids don’t always go together. Sure, sure… send them outside to run themselves into the ground – they’ll sleep better. Yes, definitely! But that isn’t always possible (for example, sub-zero temperatures or named storms) and sometimes we need some variety in our lives. That’s why I like to have fun DIY winter activities on the ready so we can always have something to fall back on.
Now, this winter scavenger hunt activity isn’t ready-made for being stuck inside (unless you’ve got a really impressive sight-line to all things *winter*… but you can improvise if you really must. Winter Scavenger Hunt Tips:
- For the youngsters, consider leaving some of the more complicated objects in more obvious places, like paper snowflakes on the windows, foot prints on the back porch, and fire wood near the fireplace.
- For larger groups, or if you have small children involved, separating into smaller groups can make the activity more fun and engaging! Encourage the older kids to team up with the younger kids.
